Painted Poppies Birthday Card

Hello! Today I have another card featuring the Peaceful Poppies Suite. I used both the Painted Poppies and Peaceful Moments stamp sets and selected one of my favorite colors, Blackberry Bliss, as the main color.

Here is how I made the card.

  • Card base – Cut piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, score and fold in half.
  • Cut piece of Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Papers at 4″ x 5 1/4″ and adhere to front of card.
  • Cut coordinating piece of DSP at 3″ x 3 1/2″ and adhere at an angle in the center of the card front.
  • Cut piece of Whisper White cardstock at 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. Stamp poppy image from the Painted Poppies stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, leaving room at the bottom of the piece to add the greeting.
  • Color the flower with the light and dark Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends and color the leaves with light and dark Old Olive Stampin’ Blends. Stamp the small splatter image from the stamp set five time around the flower with Blackberry Bliss ink, stamping off each time before stamping onto cardstock.
  • Stamp the birthday greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set with Versamark Ink on scrap piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. Heat emboss with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Punch out with the Lable Me Fancy Punch, one of the new punches in the Mini Catalog.
  • Die cut a Blackberry Bliss scalloped trim piece using the die from the Painted Labels Dies set.
  • Put the card together by adhering the scalloped trim piece to the bottom of the stamped image. Adhere to angled piece of DSP. Attach the greeting with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Cut piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4″ x 5 1/4″. Stamp greeting with Blackberry Bliss ink. Stamp poppy image with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and color with the light and dark Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends. Adhere to card.

Happy Birthday Wishes

Hello! Today’s card features the beautiful Happy Birthday to You stamp set that you can get for FREE with a purchase of $50 during Sale-A-Bration! In addition to the stamp set, you can also purchase the coordinating Birthday Dies that were introduced earlier this month as part of a collection of products that coordinate with Sale-A-Bration and Mini Catalog products, and are available while supplies last.

Purple is one of my favorite colors so I used Purple Posy and Highland Heather for this card. Here is how I made it.

  • Card base – cut piece of Purple Posy cardstock at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, score and fold in half.
  • Cut piece of Purple Posy DSP from the In Color 6″ x 6″ package of Designer Series Paper at 4″ x 5 1/4″ and adhere to card front.
  • Cut piece of Highland Heather cardstock at 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ and piece of Whisper White cardstock at 3″ x 4″. Die cut the Highland Heather piece with the largest rectangle die in the Stitched So Sweetly Die set and cut the Whisper White piece with the next-to-largest die. Adhere together and adhere to the card.
  • Stamp the “celebrate” greeting with Tuxedo Black Memento ink on scrap of Whisper White cardstock. Cut with die from the Ornate Frames Dies.
  • Stamp entire cake image with the Tuxedo Black Ink on piece of Whisper White cardstock. Color the cake stand with Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. Color the cake with So Saffron Stampin’ Blends. Do not color the flowers.
  • On another piece of Whisper White cardstock stamp just the floral image. Color the flowers with both light and dark Highland Heather and Purple Posy Stampin’ blends. Color the leaves with both the light and dark Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends. Color the flower centers with the light Basic Black Stampin’ Blend. I colored the flower at the top with Highland Heather and the two other flowers with the Purple Posy.
  • Cut the entire cake image and the floral image with the coordinating Birthday Dies. Adhere the “celebrate” greeting at an angle on lower right corner of rectangle mats. Add a purple rhinestone from the Noble Peacock Rhinestones.
  • Adhere the full cake image to the scalloped rectangle mats so that the left side of the cake falls slighty off the side. Place Stampin’ Dimensionals all over the floral image and adhere directly over the uncolored floral part of the cake image.

For the inside of the card, stamp the “Happy Birthday” greeting with Tuxedo Black Ink. Ink up the top flower on the cake stamp with Highland Heather ink and stamp in both corners of the piece.

Painted Poppies-Kylie’s Training Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to Kylie Bertucci’s Demonstrator Training Blog Hop for January! I’m part of a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world that participate in Kylie’s program for building our businesses . Click on the names in the list below to hop around and view the beautiful cards posted by so many talented stampers.

Today I’m featuring a card from the gorgeous Painted Poppies suite, my favorite in the new Mini-Catalog. Poppy Parade has always been a favorite color of mine ever since it was first introduced as an InColor years ago. I was so happy when Stampin’ Up! brought it back during the last color refresh, however I haven’t had as much occasion to use it as I’d like because it has seldom been included in any of our Designer Series Papers until now, with the Peaceful Poppies paper. I’m glad they are showing it a little love!

I turned to one of my tried and true card layouts as it is ideal for showcasing both our beautiful DSP and larger stamp images at the same time. Here is how I made the card.

  • Card base – cut piece of Poppy Parade cardstock at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, score and fold in half.
  • Cut piece of the large poppy print at 5 1/4″ x 4″ and adhere to front of card.
  • Cut piece of Whisper White cardstock at 3 1/2″ x 3″. Cut piece of smaller poppy print DSP at 3 3/8″ x 2 7/8″ and adhere together. Tie Whisper White 1/4″ Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon into bow around this piece and adhere to card.
  • For the stamped image, cut a piece of Poppy Parade cardstock at 3 1/4″ x 2 3/4″ and a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 3 1/8″ x 2 5/8″.
  • Stamp poppy image from the Painted Poppies stamp set and a greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set on the Whisper White cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I chose the birthday greeting but you can use any of the greetings in the set that would fit into the space. Use the Stamparatus to help position the greeting.
  • Color the flowers with light and dark Stampin’ Blends in Poppy Parade, Flirty Flamingo and Calypso Coral. Color leaves with the dark Old Olive Blends.
  • Adhere stamped image to the Poppy Parade mat. Adhere to larger matted piece. Adhere a few of the light Poppy Parade flower sequins from the Peaceful Poppy Sequins. I used Mini Glue Dots but you can also use the Fine Tip Glue Pen.
  • For the inside of the card, cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 5 1/4″ x 4″. Stamp greeting in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.
  • Cut a strip of DSP at 5 1/4″ x 1/2″. The new Mini Paper Cutter worked beautifully to cut this strip!

Birthday Goodness

Today I’m featuring a yummy birthday card made with the Birthday Goodness stamp set pictured on page 62 in the 2019-2020 annual catalog. I love the images and type font in this set.

Purple Posy is my favorite of the five new InColors and I decided to use it as the main color for the card. One evening as I was searching for color combinations I came across some cards from a recent Color Fusers Blog Hop that featured Purple Posy, Seaside Spray and Soft Sea Foam and thought it was a soft, feminine color combination. While I love pastels, I tend to go a little brighter with my colors, so I decided to challenge myself and am pleased with how pretty the colors look together.

Here is how I made the card.

  • Card base – Purple Posy cardstock cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″ and fold in half.
  • Cut another piece of Purple Posy cardstock at 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. Emboss with the Country Floral 3D Embossing Folder. Cut an 18″ piece of Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon and tie in a bow around embossed piece. Adhere to card base.
  • Cut piece of Whisper White cardstock at 2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″. Stamp image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Color image with Stampin’ Blends. I used Seaside Spray dark and light Blends for the roses, Purple Posy and Soft Sea Foam dark and light for the macarons and dark Petal Pink for the cream filling. For the cake stand I used dark and light Smoky Slate.
  • Die cut image using the next-to- largest die in the Stitched Nested Label set. Using the largest die in the set cut a piece of Soft Sea Foam . Adhere together. Attach to card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Stamp the greeting with Seaside Spray ink and punch out with the Classic Label punch. Adhere to image with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. Add a few sequins from the Woven Threads Sequin Assortment for an extra-added touch.
  • Inside of card – Stamp a greeting from the set on piece of Whisper White cardstock cut at 4″ x 5 1/4″ with Seaside Spray ink.

Classic Garage Birthday Cards

Hello! Today I’m featuring two birthday cards using products from the Classic Garage Suite, which is pictured on pages 42-43 in the Occasions catalog. This is one of my favorite suites in the catalog and I’m so glad that the stamp set and coordinating dies will be carrying over into the new 2019-2020 Annual Catalog. These products are great for making masculine cards and are so much fun to work with!

I made this for my friend Bill’s birthday last month and used my “go to” layout, which is a great way to showcase our great Designer Series Papers.

This card was made for my brother Mark, who celebrated his birthday yesterday. I decided to use the same layout for this card too.

To make both of these cards here are the basic dimensions.

  • Tranquil Tide cardstock for card base – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and fold in half
  • Classic Garage Designer Series Paper – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Tranquil Tide cardstock mat for art piece – 3 1/4″ x 4″
  • Whisper White base for art piece – 3″ x 3 3/4″

For the first card stamp the car with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and die cut it with the coordinating framelit from the Garage Gears Thinlits Dies. Select a few of the gear dies and cut with Basic Black, Basic Gray and Silver Foil cardstock.

Wrap piece of silver metallic thread around Whisper White base and tape at back of piece. Using the Stamparatus, stamp the greeting in the upper left corner of the base with Tranquil Tide ink.

Adhere gears to base with multipurpose liquid glue. Adhere car using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Adhere base to Tranquil Tide mat and adhere this piece to the card.

For the second card stamp the car with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and die cut it with the coordinating framelit from the Garage Gears Thinlits Dies. Select a few of the gear dies and cut with Basic Black and Crushed Curry cardstock.

Using the oil splotch stamp, ink it up with Smoky Slate and stamp off once before stamping onto Whisper White piece. Do this several times. Using the Stamparatus, stamp the greeting in the upper left corner of the base with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

Adhere gears to base with multipurpose liquid glue. Adhere car using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Adhere base to Tranquil Tide mat and adhere this piece to the card.

As a reminder, Tranquil Tide, one of the 2017-2019 InColors will be retiring soon. In addition, the Classic Garage Designer Series Paper will also be retiring. This is a terrific set of papers and it really makes the cards pop! If you have been thinking about purchasing them now is the time!

Place an online order between $50-$149 with me and receive a free gift. This month’s gift is a package of Pearlized Doilies.

Beautiful You Meets Painted Harvest

My friend Melinda recently asked me to make a special birthday card for her sister, who was diagnosed with breast cancer early last year and is now in remission and doing well.  She gave me a list of things she wanted me to incorporate into the design of the card: it needed to have an uplifting message, her sister loves sunflowers, loves to dance, loves the color pink (which of course is also the color of the breast cancer ribbon), wanted to have the ribbon somewhere on the card and it also needed a birthday greeting. Oh, by the way, she wanted the card size to be 5″ x 7″ rather than our standard 4 1/4″ x   5 1/2 ” sized card, which meant more space to fill up. I didn’t have a clue how this mishmash would end up looking in the final product but I was really pleased with how it turned out and within a minute of texting Melinda a photo of the card, she called me to say how excited she was, it was exactly what she was looking for and that she knew her sister would love it!

Initially, I met with Melinda and showed her a selection of stamp sets with both images and greetings and when she saw the Beautiful You set, with the image of the dancing woman and the inspirational words, that was the clincher.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to incorporate the sunflower theme until I remembered that the Painted Harvest stamp set includes sunflowers.  I pulled out whatever paper I had left from the Painted Autumn designer paper set from the 2017 Holiday Catalog and had enough of the big sunflower print left to use on the card.   I went with Blushing Bride and So Saffron as my color selections but still wasn’t quite sure how they would work with the designer paper until it all came together.

I started by stamping the image of the woman with Memento Ink on Whisper White cardstock and used an aquapainter to watercolor the image.  To tie the image in with the designer paper, which has a Soft Sky background, I did a watercolor wash around the image of the woman using Soft Sky ink, now retired, and the aquapainter.   I used one of the larger circles from the Layering Circles Framelits set to die cut the image and also die cut a piece of Blushing Bride cardstock using the largest scallop circle in the set and attached the pieces together. I used my Blushing Bride and Black Stampin’ Write Markers to color the greeting and used smaller sized framelits to die cut the greeting and Blushing Bride scallop circle and attached them together.  For the background, I cut a piece of So Saffron cardstock at 4 3/4″ by 6 3/4″ and did two-step stamping with So Saffron and Daffodil Delight ink all over the paper and for the centers of the sunflowers I used Soft Suede ink and stamped off before stamping onto the cardstsock.  I cut a piece of the designer paper at 1 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ and attached it to the background.  I cut a piece of retired Blushing Bride ribbon and tied a bow towards the top of the card, attached both circle pieces and attached the background piece to the Blushing Bride card front.

For the inside greeting, I cut a piece of So Saffron cardstock at 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ and a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4 1/2″ by 6 1/2″ for the greeting and attached them together. I chose three of the greetings from the Beautiful You stamp set and used the Stamparatus to position the words in a staggered design, stamping with Blushing Bride ink.  I added a band of the designer paper to the bottom.  I used a retired breast cancer ribbon single stamp we had years ago to do tone-on-tone stamping with Blushing Bride ink on the back of the card as a way to incorporate the ribbon. The birthday party for Melinda’s sister took place this past Saturday evening and I anxiously awaited feedback from her.  Here is what she wrote me: “I wanted to let you know that my sister loved the card.  It actually made her cry.” Her sister is planning to post a picture to her Facebook page.  “That is how much she loves it.”

Every once in a while, my Stampin’ Up! upline, Janet Wakeland, poses the question, “What is your why?”  meaning why do you do what you do?  In this world of canned email greeting cards and tweets, I believe that people crave more personalized messages.  For me, as much as I love our products, making cards and teaching classes, ultimately, it is about bringing joy to someone in the form of a beautiful card that someone took the time to lovingly put together!
