Beauty Abounds

Hello! Today I have two cards for you, both the same design, using the same two colors – Basic Black and Lemon Lime Twist, but changing them up. These cards feature the Butterfly Beauty Thinlits Dies, which create these gorgeous butterflies! These dies are part of the Beauty Abounds bundle pictured on page 13 in the Occasions catalog. The background papers are from the beautiful Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper, which you can get as a free Sale-A-Bration item with a $50 purchase.

Here is how I made the cards. They are done in portrait layout.

  • Cut piece of cardstock at 4 1/4″ x 11″ and fold in half. Cut piece of Botanical Butterflies DSP at 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ and adhere to card base.
  • Die cut two butterflies using two contrasting papers. There are two large butterfly dies. The outer edges of the wings on one of the dies are solid and on the other die the outer edges are lacy. There are a few ways to adhere the butterflies to the front of the card: cut a piece from a sheet of multipurpose adhesive, adhere to piece of paper before running through the Big Shot and then remove the adhesive backing; lightly apply Snail Adhesive in selected spots; or lightly apply liquid glue in selected spots. Attach the solid wing piece first and then attach the lacy piece on top of it, carefully matching the sides of both sets of wings.
  • Stamp “hello” greeting from the Beauty Abounds stamp set on piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut using small circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.
  • Cut two pieces of coordinating color of ribbon and apply them criss-cross at bottom of card and attach the greeting on top of the ribbon. To finish off the card front I added a few rhinestones for some bling.
  • For the inside of the card, cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4″ x 5 1/4″. I stamped the splotch image in a lighter color of ink in the bottom left corner and then stamped the larger butterfly image on top of it using Memento Black Ink.
For this card I used the Lemon Lime Twist cardstock as my base and also as the bottom layer of the butterfly. I used Lemon Lime Twist ink and ribbon.
For this card I used Basic Black cardstock for the base and also for the bottom layer of the butterfly. I used black ink and ribbon

Which card do like better? I couldn’t decide, as I like them equally! Feel free to leave me a comment.

Update on Occasions and Sale-A-Bration Products

Stampin’ Up! has informed us of the current status of several products in the Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs so I wanted to share this with you if you have been thinking about placing an order.

The Butterfly Duet Punch (#148523) and the Cake Builder Punch (#148525) are not orderable at this time. New shipments of these two punches are not expected until sometime in mid-March or early April. Because of this, the Butterfly Gala Bundle (#150599) and the Piece of Cake Bundle (#150579) are also not orderable at this time, however, it does not affect availability of the Butterfly Gala and Piece of Cake stamp sets, which you can still order. The good news is that both of these punches will be available in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog!

Butterfly Gala Punch

Cake Builder Punch

Several items in the Sale-A-Bration catalog are going like hotcakes! The redemption of the Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack (149623) way exceeded inventory projections and is not orderable at this time. Inventory coming into the warehouse will be used to fill back orders. Another shipment is expected in March and will be orderable again at that time, while supplies last.

Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack

Redemption of the Foil Sheets and Precious Parcel Card Kit Sale-A-Bration items is going very strong and while inventory is not yet depleted, they might not be available through the end of the SAB promotion period. I just finished putting together the pretty cards from the Precious Parcel kit and they were quick and easy to put together – and no stamping!

Grapefruit Grove & Lovely Lipstick Foil Sheets #(149712)
Precious Parcel Card Kit (#149750)

If you have questions about any of these items please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanks!

Geared Up Garage

Hello! Today’s card is one that I made for my father, who turned 97 years old last week! He lives nearby in a wonderful personal care facility so I get to see him frequently. He is still able to get around quite well on his own, and as a lifelong reader, still has a voracious appetite for reading. You’d never know by looking at him that he is 97! Dad has always loved cars and as a retired industrial arts teacher, knew his way around fixing them too. I got a chance to work with the Geared Up Garage bundle during one of the make-and-take sessions at OnStage last year and knew immediately that I’d have to purchase it so I could make some cards for him in the coming year.

I partially CASE’d this idea from a card I saw on Pinterest. Here are the steps to make it.

  • Cut a piece of Real Red cardstock at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and fold in half.
  • Select a piece of paper from the Classic Garage Designer Series Paper and cut at 4″ x 5 1/4″ and adhere to card base.
  • Stamp the car image in Real Red ink and using the coordinating die from the Garage Gears Thinlits, run through the Big Shot.
  • Stamp “Best Dad” image in Memento black ink on piece of Crushed Curry cardstock and run through Big Shot with coordinating die.
  • Die cut a circle from Whisper White cardstock, using the third largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Randomly stamp the nuts in Memento black ink and the oil blobs in Crushed Curry ink.
  • Adhere circle to card, adhere “Best Dad” image and adhere automobile with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This card was fun to make and easy to put together. Dad absolutely loved it! I’m planning on using some of the designer papers to make a few Valentine’s Day cards for men and will post them sometime next week.

For those of you experiencing the great chill, especially in the Midwest, stay safe and warm! My brother lives in Wisconsin so I know what you are going through. Temps are due to drop to 2 below here in Pennsylvania overnight. I’m spending the rest of my stamping time this week making cards that will help me to “think spring!”

Meant to Be

Hello!  Today I have two cards made with the Meant to Be bundle to share with you.  This bundle is one of two in the All My Love mega-suite.  Both cards are 4 1/4″ square.

Here is the first card, which is a collage made with several pieces from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits.  I love heart images and was bummed when the Sweet and Sassy Framelits dies were retired last year, so am delighted that we now have a beautiful new set of hearts!

Here are the steps to make the card.

  • Cut a piece of Lovely Lipstick cardstock at 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ and fold in half.
  • Cut a piece of All My Love Designer Series Paper at 4″ square and adhere to front of card base.
  • Use the large scalloped edge framelit to die cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Run through Big Shot.
  • Use the smallest scalloped edge framelit to die cut a piece of Lovely Lipstick cardstock.  Run through Big Shot.
  • Use the heart edgelit die to cut a piece of Lovely Lipstick cardstock.  There are two options for adhering this piece to the card.  You can cut a piece of a Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet and adhere to the Lovely Lipstick cardstock before running it through the Big Shot or you can use the Fine Tip Glue Pen.
  • Arrange die cut pieces on card front and adhere.  Cut a length of Lovely Lipstick 1/8″ Grosgrain ribbon, tie into a bow and adhere to card using a Mini Glue Dot.

  • Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4″ square for the inside of the card.  Stamp with a greeting of your choice.  I used the “Happy Valentine’s Day” greeting. from the Meant to Be stamp set.  I also randomly adhered a few of the little hearts that popped out after die cutting with the edgelit.  Be sure to save these pieces so you use use them to add a little extra something to your cards!

Here is the second card I made.  I had an idea in mind when I started out and it took some twists and turns however I was happy with how it ended up!

Here are the steps to make this card.

  • Cut a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock at 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ and fold in half.
  • Cut a piece of All My Love Designer Series Paper at 4″ square.
  • Use the ornate heart from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits to die cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Run through the Big Shot.
  • Use the medium scalloped die to cut a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock.  Run through the Big Shot. You will use the inside heart piece from the Flirty Flamingo and can save the frame for another project.  To adhere the  hearts together line up the bottoms of the two hearts.  I used Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue or you can also use the Fine Tip Glue Pen and lightly dot along edge of Flirty Flamingo heart piece. I added a few pearls for a little bling.

  • Stamp the “You Make me Happy” greeting with Flirty Flamingo ink on Whisper White cardstsock. Die cut stamped greeting with smallest oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits and cut a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock with the coordinating scalloped edge framelit.  Adhere together.
  • To finish off the card front, cut a piece of white ribbon to fit around the piece of Designer Series Paper.  Adhere with snail tape, wrapping both ends of ribbon to back of DSP.  I used Whisper White Sheer 1/8″ Ribbon, which is now retired.  Adhere the greeting over the ribbon.  Adhere the ornate heart piece to the top of the card.  Make sure that you only apply adhesive to the bottom piece of the heart.  You also need to make sure that once the heart is attached that the height of the card doesn’t go past 5 1/4″ so that it fits nicely into the standard medium size envelopes.

  • Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4″ square for the inside of the card.  Stamp with a greeting of your choice.  I used the “Wishing You a Lovely Day” greeting from the Forever Lovely stamp set.  I also stamped the little floral image in the center, using Flirty Flamingo ink.

Gingham Gala Card and Gift Box

Today I”m sharing a card and gift box I created with products from the Gingham Gala Suite pictured on pages 34-35 in the new Occasions catalog.  I love the Gingham Gala Designer Series Papers – the colors are so bright and cheery! For today’s projects I’m working with the Highland Heather paper.

Here is how I made the card.

  • Card base – Thick Whisper White cardstock cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″
  • Cut a piece of Highland Heather cardstock at 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ and attach to card base
  • Select one of the butterfly images from the Butterfly Gala stamp set and stamp onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock using black Memento ink.  You will note that each image has both a large and small butterfly on the same stamp.
  • Color butterflies with Stampin’ Blends.  For this card I used the dark and light Highland Heather and Pool Party markers and the light Old Olive marker.  It is very hard to see in the photo but I added clear Wink of Stella to both butterflies.  Stamp the middle part of the butterflies with black Memento ink.  I used the Stamparatus to line up the small stamps.
  • Punch both butterflies out with the Butterfly Duet punch, which includes both the large and small image on the same punch.  Add Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals to the backs of both butterflies
  • Cut a piece of Pool Party cardstock at 2 1/2″ x 3 1/4″.  Cut piece of Highland Heather paper from the Gingham Gala at 2 3/8″ x 3 1/8″ and attach it to the Pool Party cardstock.  Cut a piece of Highland Heather ribbon and tie around piece.  This ribbon is in the Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack in the Sale-A-Bration catalog.
  • Cut a piece of Pool Party cardstock at 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.  Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 2 3/8″ x 3 3/8″.   Attach butterflies to Whisper White cardstock.  Stamp the “a little note” greeting in Heather Highland ink.  Attach to Pool Party cardstock.  Add a few of the smallest size of the Gorgeous Grape Glitter Enamel Dots.
  • Attach the gingham piece to the bottom right of the card and then attach the butterfly piece on top of the gingham piece.

  • For the inside of the card I cut a 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ strip of the Highland Heather Gingham Gala paper and attached it to the left side.  I carefully inked up just the small butterfly with black Memento ink and stamped it in the lower right corner.

Here is the coordinating gift box that I created using the Window Box Thinlits on page 232 of the annual catalog.

Here are the steps to make the box.

  • Cut a sheet of Highland Heather cardstock at 8 1/2″ x 11″ in half to give you two pieces at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.  Using the Window Box framelit cut two pieces for the box.  This framelit cuts and scores at the same time.  Put the box together, folding at the score lines and adhering pieces together with either Tombow Multipurpose Glue or Tear & Tape.  Watch this video for complete instructions on how to put the box together.

  • Cut six 1 1/2″ squares of Highland Heather Gingham Gala DSP.  For the top of the box, trace the hexagonal shape of the framelit onto a piece of the DSP and cut out with a scissor.
  • Select one of the butterfly images from the Butterfly Gala stamp set and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock using black Memento ink.  For the box I stamped and colored two large butterflies and one small one.  I chose a different stamp for the box than what I used for the card.
  • Color butterflies with Stampin’ Blends.  I used the dark and light Highland Heather and Pool Party markers and the light Old Olive marker and added clear Wink of Stella.  Stamp the middle part of the butterflies with Black Memento ink, using the Stamparatus to line up the small stamps.
  • Punch the butterflies out with the Butterfly Duet punch.  Add Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals to the backs of the butterflies
  • Stamp a greeting of your choice with Highland Heather ink on a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I used the “you are amazing” greeting from the Amazing Life stamp set, pictured on page 28 in the Occasions catalog.  Punch out greeting using the Classic Label punch, pictured on page 210 in the annual catalog and add a few Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back.
  •   Adhere gingham pieces to box, adhere the two large butterflies to the top of the box, along with the greeting.  Adhere the small butterfly to the front of the box.
